Yesterday, Monday the 9th of June 2008, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) brought forth to the House floor his resolution to impeach President Bush. Read the twenty page, thirty-five article resolution, which Rep. Kucinich spent 290 minutes reading aloud Monday evening, right here. This evening it is being re-read by House clerks. The re-reading is going on now at the typing of this post. They're on paragraph five of page thirteen.Last year, Rep. Kucinich introduced a similar resolution for Vice President Cheney. The resolution was not read aloud and was voted immediately to the House Judiciary Committee and has been subsequently ignored ever since. This time around, the gentleman from Ohio agreed for the same vote to take place only after it was agreed the resolution would be re-read. The vote is expected to take place tomorrow, Wednesday the 11th.Just like the Cheney impeachment resolution, this will be sent to a purgatorial committee. It's not that the reasons for impeachment aren't valid and lawful, it's simply that our leaders (of both parties) choose not to enforce the President's or their own Constitutional oaths for political reasons.Click here for only visible discussion of this matter conducted by the mainstream media.
What else needs to be brought to light for us to realise the Iraq War was a calculated and predetermined conflict the Bush Administration manufactured in order to expand executive authority and funnel taxpayer dollars to their business interests? The U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee released on Thursday the "Phase II" report which took further the conclusions of the previous report which said the intelligence that Administration officials cited as a reason to invade and conduct an unprovoked war with Iraq was false. The "Phase II" Report found that the public statements of White House officials (Bush, Cheney, Colin Powell, and Donald Rumsfeld mainly) during the march to violence were purposefully, not mistakenly, misleading to overstate the national security threat Saddam Hussein's Iraq posed. So they did lie. They weren't innocently wrong about everything they said. They lied. Our President, Vice President, Secretary of Defense, and Secretary of State all lied so that they could start a war with a phantom threat they could then give a vague unending purpose.
Some Republican Senators agreed and supported the findings while others called them "partisan". The search for truth is a partisan one and reality has a liberal bias, right? I'm trying to remember when we in this nation believed in laws and obeyed them willingly. Today's GOP doesn't operate on that plain anymore apparently.
I'm not well-read on the procedures regarding treason prosecution, but I'd venture a guess that an Attorney General appointed by a President Obama would be very well-read in that regard.
Now with enough pledged delegates, super and otherwise, Barack Obama announced here in St. Paul, Minnesota this evening that he has clinched the Democratic Party presidential nomination. There were over 17,000 in attendance at the Minnesota Wilds Xcel Energy Center, future host to the GOP Convention this fall, and over 15,000 outside watching Obama being broadcast on the exterior jumbo screens.
The path ahead for America's journey to the fork in the road this November pitting Old vs. New is one of profound consequence for the future of our nation as well as the world. In the next several years we will be asked to make sacrifices and we will be asked to make changes. Before we can respond, however, we must ensure with our democratic process that the right questions are asked.
For the past 7 and half years, time and opportunity has passed us by during the most crucial of crises: Environmental, economic, judicial, political, and moral. Either by choice or inability, our leaders, allowed to do so by our silence, have squandered aforementioned time and opportunity that could have and should have been utilised to bring about change that benefits not only America, but the rest of the world.
In November, after the 8th year of criminally inept leadership swirls down the drain of modern memory, we get our last chance to enact change. Let's not shit on it this time.
